As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Assistant Program Director (APD). They will be responsible for assisting with the management of day-to-day operations of the Nurse Anesthesia Program (NAP) within the framework of the Leighton School of Nursing and Marian University. This is a 12-month position.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Assists with the administrative and clinical implementation and operation of the NAP.
  • Assists with maintaining all aspects of the program within the standards established by the COA and CCNE.
  • Acts, along with the PD, as a liaison for the NAP with the community of interest.
  • Collaborates with the Community Outreach Coordinator as needed in the guidance of the clinical coordinators and clinical faculty.
  • Engages in review of student clinical evaluations.
  • Assists with the review of didactic evaluations to include course syllabi, examinations, evaluations, and student performance.
  • Assists in the supervision of the EBP research activities of nurse anesthetist graduate students.
  • Assists with implementation the evaluation plan for continuous self-assessment of the program consistent with the standards of the COA of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and CCNE to include the evaluation of the tools as established by the program, on at least an annual basis.
  • Participates in review of student performances in regard to the SEE and NCE testing.
  • Assists with the evaluation of didactic plan and efficacy and makes recommendations to PD and faculty as needed.
  • Assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures that govern student recruitment, selection, evaluation, probation, and/or dismissal.
  • Assists with preparing the necessary reports and documents to maintain accreditation of the NAP.
  • Assists with and supervising the clinical coordinators and clinical faculty to ensure compliance of the program with all clinical requirements set by the COA. This may include assisting with, conducting, and/or coordinating clinical instructor’s workshops.
  • Ensures all didactic and clinical faculty have current credentialing on file per accreditation requirements.
  • Assists with completion of record-keeping and data collecting required by the COA and the NBCRNA.
  • Assists the PD in conducting visits to each of the clinical sites as required by the COA.
  • Maintains clinical competency skills to provide anesthesia.
  • Communicates regularly with the NAP Director on issues related to the program.
  • Provides input to the NAP Program Director regarding the budgeting process ensuring an adequate number of faculty and administrative positions for successful operation and achievement of NAP outcomes.
  • Coordinates with the Simulation Coordinator as to best uses of Simulation activities.
  • Participates in program, school, and university committees.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in nursing, current certification as a CRNA, and prior clinical, academic, scholarship, and/or research experience.
  • Formal instruction in curriculum, evaluation, and instruction.
  • Prior experience with COA accreditation processes and outcomes assessment and evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills are highly desirable.
  • Engagement in professional organizations and a record of scholarly achievement are highly desirable.
  • Hold current certification as a CRNA from the NBCRNA.
  • Current, unrestricted Indiana license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Professional membership in the AANA.
