Dance Team Head Coach - PT

Athletics and Recreation


The Head Dance Team Coach is responsible for the training and development of Adelphi's Dance Team. This position has responsibility for overseeing full management of the Dance team program including recruitment, training and supervising performances as well as community outreach and alumni engagement.

REPORTS TO: Director of Recreation and Intramurals

  1. Conduct tryouts and auditions and select team members.
  2. Conduct practices, develop choreography and prepare team in performance skills.
  3. Manage team at Adelphi basketball games and performances on and off campus.
  4. Adhere to University and Athletic Department policies.
  5. Coordinate practice and facility schedules with facility staff.
  6. Coordinate budgetary needs and expenditures as well as travel with Athletic Budget manager.
  7. Formulate and implement recruitment activities such as community outreach, pre-college clinics, Kids clinics, etc.
  8. Formulate and implement initiatives for alumni engagement of their group.
  9. Implement and direct fundraising efforts to support travel, competition and endowed scholarships if possible.
  10. Works toward providing a positive student experience and student success for members of the team. This includes creating a positive and inclusive team environment, treating all team members fairly and with respect and providing team bonding activities and handling conflicts or issues that arise in a timely and professional manner.

Physical requirements:
  1. Ability to perform and demonstrate applicable skills as necessary.

  1. Experience with collegiate dance team participation as well as working with college aged students is required.
  2. Bachelor's degree is required.
  3. Three or more years' experience coaching collegiate spirit groups is preferred.

  1. Assistant Coach(es).
  2. Managers.
  3. Choreographers, as needed.
