DEPARTMENT: Construction Management

POSITION TITLE: Lecturer Pool - Construction Management

POSITION DETAILS:

The Department of Construction Management at CSUS is designed for students who enter professional practice immediately upon graduation. The CM program and teaching methods are therefore practical in nature, providing hands-on experience for students through labs and class projects. Graduates of the CM program enjoy an excellent reputation among regional employers and many move quickly into leadership roles on large projects. The CM program enrolls 400 undergraduate students, offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management with a minor degree in Business Administration.

The Department is interested in hiring lecturers in all areas of Construction Management including material testing; construction surveying; construction graphics, estimating; project management; planning and scheduling; design of soils and foundation structures; construction law; labor relations; statics, to teach both lower and upper division required and elective courses.

Duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.
