The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a General Counsel. The General Counsel will be responsible for managing the university's legal affairs, including advising on legal rights, obligations and related matters. Provides legal advice and works collaboratively with the USG System Legal Office to manage matters in litigation. This position oversees the Title IX office. 

  • Requires a Juris Doctor from an A.B.A. accredited law school.
  • Requires at least five years of experience; experience advising higher education institutions is preferred.
  • Requires membership in good standing with the Georgia State Bar, or satisfies the criteria to be admitted upon motion without examination. 
  • Provides legal counsel and guidance on various matters including policies, contracts, affiliation agreements and other transactional matters.  Reviews and assesses various legal documents.
  • Provides advice, education and counsel regarding open records requests, subpoenas, FERPA, and other legal issues that arise.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in law and policy that have an impact on the university.
  • Creates proactive strategies for ensuring compliance with existing and contemplated laws, regulations and policies.
  • Serves on various committees including, but not limited to the Investigations Committee and the Research Foundation Board.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
