Department Summary
Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education services to infants, toddlers, and preschool children in Lane County. Early Childhood CARES is the early intervention/early childhood special education program for young children with delays and disabilities in Lane County and is an outreach program in the College of Education. Over 1600 children who have developmental delays or disabilities are served each year.

Early Childhood CARES services include parent consultation, parent-toddler groups, specialized preschools, consultation to children in community preschools or childcare, and speech, physical or occupational therapy.

Staff who work for Early Childhood CARES have teaching licenses or state authorization to teach young children. They are specialists in early intervention/early childhood special education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, autism, and behavior.

Early Childhood CARES is funded by the Oregon Department of Education with state and federal dollars.
Position Summary
The Classroom Program Coordinator provides clinical oversight, supervision, and management of Early Childhood CARES classroom services, which include 11 separate classroom locations. The Classroom Program Coordinator ensures that all classrooms run by Early Childhood CARES meet safety standards, are adequately staffed, and met quality standards for early childhood special education.

The Classroom Program Coordinator provides clinical supervision to 5-10 Service Coordinators/Clinical Assistant Professors who are licensed professionals providing educational services to birth to 5-year-old children with disabilities in Early Childhood CARES classroom programs.

The Classroom Program Coordinator oversees the hiring and supervision of associate teachers and teaching assistants. The Classroom Program Coordinator supervises the Classroom Support Coordinator and coordinates with the Classroom Program Coordinator to ensure that all associates teachers and teaching assistants receive training, annual performance reviews, and meet agency standards for performance.

The Classroom Program Coordinator assists in the recruitment of new community preschool sites; assuring the preschools meet quality guidelines, assisting in contract development, and providing additional support as needed. The Classroom Program Coordinator oversees the placement of practicum students and volunteers and ensures that quality practicum experiences for practicum students and interns at the University of Oregon are provided by Early Childhood CARES.

The position includes six weeks of work in the summer. Contracts are renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and continued funding.

This position reports to the Co-Directors of Early Childhood CARES.

Special Requirements:
  • Ability to travel to locations throughout Lane County that are not serviced by public transportation
  • Enrollment in the Central Background Registry

    Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Speech Language Pathology, or related field.
  • A TSPC administrator license or EI/ECSE Supervisor Authorization from the Oregon Department of Education is required within one year of employment.
  • Five years' experience working as a licensed professional in the field of EI/ECSE or Special Education.
  • Five years' experience working in preschool classrooms.
  • Experience applying working knowledge of the federal and state laws and regulations that govern EI/ECSE.
  • Experience training and supervising EI/ECSE or Education-related professionals.
  • An understanding of inequities in academia faced by historically underrepresented or disadvantaged groups.
  • Evidence of successful mentoring, teaching, or outreach aimed to reduce barriers for underrepresented or disadvantaged groups.
    Professional Competencies
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
  • Ability to problem solve with parents and staff and work effectively with challenging personnel or child/family situations.
  • Ability to make effective decisions that benefit children and Early Childhood CARES.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with software and technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database computer applications.
  • Ability to interact effectively with children while providing instruction.
  • High-Level clinical problem solving and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting an inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual individuals are strongly preferred.
  • Ten years' experience working in the field of EI/ECSE.
  • Experience collaborating in partnership with research activities.
  • Experience in employment-related matters and unionized environments.
