Essential Functions (Job Duties)
Communicate effectively and accurately academic and non-academic requirements, policies and procedures to students, staff and faculty;
Maintain continuous advising relationships with students, effectively engage students in broad discussion from initial college preparedness through career planning, monitor and communicate using university systems, social media, small group, and face-to-face sessions, as appropriate;
Coordinate retention efforts;
Work with departmental supervisors and in consultation with departmental and college administrators, staff and advisors;
Act as liaison with other CFPCA units and additional units on campus as appropriate, participate in meetings and work as a member of a CFPCA advising team;
Advise prospective and current undergraduate and post bachelor students, provide a comprehensive suite of advising services, prepare work plans, advise potential and current students regarding admission, major and general education requirements and career planning;
Conduct information sessions and provide academic advising on the main campus and at extension centers;
Assist in recruiting efforts, represent department at regional high school and community college programs and at college/university recruiting events, coordinate special programs;
Verify requirements for degree completion and certification;
Continuously develop knowledge of best practices, policies and procedures, technological tools, etc., with regard to advising;
Facilitate orientation sessions and/or orientation courses for FTIACs, transfers, and other student populations;
Work with minimal supervision;
Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as needed and requested;
Provide own transportation to work and work-related events.
Unique Duties
Qualifications
Master's degree required;
At least one degree in one or more of the disciplines in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, education, counseling, or related field;
Previous work experience in higher education or a related non-profit setting;
Computer skills commonly utilized in an office setting;
Demonstrated excellence in time management and organizational skills;
Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting;
Demonstrated ability to think creatively.
Preferred Qualifications
The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts consists of four departments: The James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History, the Department of Communication, Department of Music, and the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance. Each department prefers degree(s) and/or commensurate professional experience that corresponds to fields(s) taught in that department.
