Position Overview

Works at a high level of autonomy and primarily offices at a partner community college. Co-advises community college students in conjunction with community college staff regarding appropriate academic schedules by term, choice of major, number of hours enrolled, prerequisite courses, and academic status such as probation, and/or suspension. Additional communication and recommendations may be delivered in group settings as well as through electronic correspondence. Will also offer constructive suggestions to improve both in-and-out-of-classroom engagements to achieve academic and personal goals. Attends various meetings, events, college fairs, and other functions at the partner community college as well as on the UCO campus.

The general schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, varying hours, with evenings and weekends as required. **Note** This position will primarily office at Rose State College and commute to UCO's campus as needed or requested.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
  • The Transfer Specialist reports to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment.
  • Collaborates with the offices of advisement, financial aid, career development, and enrollment.
  • Partner with the community college to serve as a liaison between students and various campus resources such as academic departments, admission, graduation support, and academic advising utilizing a holistic approach to student success.
  • Provide admission, degree exploration, advisement, enrollment, and financial aid general support for prospective students through in-person meetings, live chat, video chat, email, or social media; create and support initiatives to encourage degree completion.
  • Identify enrollment barriers for students and work with internal and external stakeholders to assist students in navigating University processes.
  • Host UCO events on community college partner campuses and participate in community college student success initiatives and programs.
  • Assist in the development and creation of print and online materials to promote these initiatives.
  • Interacts with various levels within or outside the University to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day-to-day operations.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures, generally accepted principles, and methods. Resolves day-to-day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information. Solutions may include modifying procedures and methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from the supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions.
  • May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements. May assist with research, requirements gathering, or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.
  • Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate processes to follow.
  • Generally reports to a manager or higher but may receive operational direction and guidance from senior-level staff members.
  • May provide functional subject matter expertise and guidance to junior staff.
Qualifications

Qualifications Required:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in job related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Admissions, recruitment, advising, or Enrollment Management experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Banner and CRM solutions.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse applicant/student population as well as to various members of the higher education community.
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills delivered from a client-centered perspective.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and give attention to details.
