EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed. This job posting is not for a specific assignment or for a full-time faculty position, but rather for a pool of candidates who may be considered for part-time teaching or allied faculty assignments. Allied faculty include counselors, librarians, work experience faculty and other assignments.

Essential Functions
- Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.
- Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
- Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
- Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.
- Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidates who are recommended for the pool after committee interviews will be added to the pool for disciplines interviewed and deemed qualified for (screening/interviewing committees will confirm disciplines that candidates are qualified for).
Applications are accepted for associate faculty pools on a continuous basis. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected for interview, candidates will be invited to interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. The Committee may include representatives consisting of Faculty, Administrators, and Classified Professionals. Students may also participate in the committee selection process as determined by the Screening and Interviewing Committee. For candidates who are recommended for the pool, references will be checked at any point beyond the committee interview. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for four years.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The English as a Second Language Department at Santa Rosa Junior College offers a full range of ESL coursework and programs. We serve over 3,000 ESL students with a wide variety of personal, vocational, and academic goals. We also provide extensive community based classes, including family literacy programs, civics based education and traditional ESL classes. Our goal is for students to access campus/community programs and services and to assist students, both on and off campus, to realize their aspirations. The department encourages bilingual/bicultural individuals, including women and persons with disabilities, to apply. We are seeking instructors for inclusion in a pool who have the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas:
Credit:
- Intermediate, and advanced levels of integrated reading, writing, and grammar, as well as pronunciation and communication courses.
- Integrated courses in beginning and low intermediate grammar, reading and writing needed for survival in social, academic and workplace situations and to help students transfer from noncredit to credit courses.
- Ability to teach primary language literacy in Spanish and/or to teach in family literacy programs (preferred not not necessary).
Minimum Qualifications
Required for Credit Courses:Master's Degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or Education with a TESL emphasis OR Bachelor's Degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, Linguistics with a TESL certificate, Applied Linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master's Degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, Speech, or any foreign language; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Language Arts and Literature.
Required for Non-Credit Courses: Bachelor's Degree in TESL or TESOL; OR Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, any foreign language, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, or Speech AND a TESL certificate (which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a non-credit instructor); OR Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified above AND one year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience teaching English as a Second Language in any accredited institution AND a TESL certificate (which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a non-credit instructor); OR possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a Second Language; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Language Arts and Literature.
Required for all areas: Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
