Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Development and Programs at the Mulvane Museum is responsible for assisting in the development, fundraising, and supervising of daily operations, the administrative functions, and staff to fulfill the Museum’s objective. In addition, the Assistant Director will support the planning and implementation of the marketing outreach strategy for the Museum and supports a broad-based strategy of donor recognition, stewardship, and communications.

Essential Job Functions of Position

· As the liaison with the Friends of the Mulvane Art Museum ( FOMAM ), responsible for assisting with creating fundraising activities and events. As a partner will work with them to build sustainable strategies in membership development.
· In collaboration with Museum Director, FOMAM, and Washburn University (WU) Foundation, develop and maintain relationships with donors, supporters, and sponsors for museum programs and operations. Organize and manage the records of current and prospective donors. Work to discover prospects for new gifts.
· Manage donor gift acknowledgments, stewardship and proactively identify opportunities to communicate with donors.
· Supervise data collection and management of members, donors, and sponsors.
· In association with the Washburn University Foundation, design and identify sustainable strategies for donor development to build the Mulvane’s Endowment.
· Coordinate with Museum Director, FOMAM, and Washburn University Foundation, on the development of sponsorships and funding requests and grants for exhibitions, educational outreach programs, collections, and operational activities of the Museum.
· Assist with the development and implementation of the Museum’s marketing strategy to recruit visitors from the campus, community, and region.
· Support the planning of a variety of events on behalf of the Museum.
· Recruit, hire, train, and supervise office, administrative support staff in the administrative and operational functions of the Museum, including the production of program delivery, attendance, income, and expense reports on a regular basis.

· Serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence.
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, or marketing and one year of directly related administrative experience in an arts/cultural/not-for-profit or executive higher education environment; Or a master’s degree in business, sales, or marketing.
Experience fundraising and recruiting.
Event planning experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Effective communication, customer service and presentation skills.
Knowledge of or the ability to learn software related to editing website content, social media, and fundraising.

Licenses, Certifications & Registrations

Ability to lift, carry and maneuver up to 25 pounds.

Advertised Pay

$46,000 to $48,000 annually

Work Schedule

Regular Business Hours, Other - Occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
