Purpose of Position
Final responsibility for the preparation and operation of all <300-level labs in department, day-to-day supervision of stockroom student workers, and supporting stockroom operations in conjunction with the Stockroom Manager. Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have:
  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or related field with one year experience in laboratory preparation.

Oversee preparation and execution of setup for all <300-level labs in department, including the safe preparation of reagents/solutions/unknowns, proper setup of teaching lab equipment and supplies prior to lab sessions, and cleanliness and reset of lab following each session.
  • Provide day to day supervision of student stockroom IWS / FWS workers, training students as needed in hazardous waste procedures and teaching lab reset/setup practices.
  • Support Stockroom Manager with preparation and execution of >=300-level labs.
  • Maintain database of department chemical inventory.
  • Ensure stockroom staffing is covered while teaching labs are in session (in conjunction with the Stockroom Manager).
  • Ensure the correct labeling of all lab chemicals, packaging and disposal of hazardous waste is completed safely and in compliance with appropriate regulations (in conjunction with Stockroom Manager) .
  • Support faculty in the development, review, and revision of procedures and experiments in <300-level labs.
  • Monitor overall department laboratory safety (in conjunction with Stockroom Manager).
  • Other stockroom/laboratory duties as necessary.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or related field with one year experience in laboratory preparation.
  • A sound knowledge of the safe handling of chemicals and hazardous waste.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ability to rapidly respond to questions and needs of faculty, students, staff, and visitors to department.
  • Sufficient computer skills to learn lab- and database-specific software in addition to the normal work word processing, spreadsheet, email, and internet software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to guide student workers to complete tasks in a timely manner.
