Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the position is responsible for all aspects of benefits administration including day to day activities, vendor issues and relationships, potential future programs and plan design options.

It serves as a key member of the HR Leadership team providing direction in response to the institution’s strategic priorities.

This position will be responsible for ensuring that all benefits are consistent with the university vision, long term strategy and culture. Primary Responsibilities
  • Create and communicate strategic benefit plans for the university in collaboration with internal teams and consultants, brokers etc.
  • Develop and implement plan changes to maintain and/or reduce costs while maintaining benefit competitiveness.
  • Analyzes benefit options and works with vendors and consultants to predict future costs.
  • Lead and coach benefits staff.
  • Assure all required documentation is in order (plan documents, summary benefits, required notices, etc.)Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing laws and regulations and updates to legal requirements.
  • Manage application approval/denial process and report results.
This position has a flexible work schedule but requires an on campus presence.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree in related field, Masters’ degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in the the benefits field.
  • In-depth understanding of employee benefit plans, policies, practices, common exclusions/limitations and applicable laws.
  • Direct supervisory/management experience required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees is critical.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist ( CEBS ) certification preferred.
