Job Description
Responsible for evaluating patient eligibility for Department of Medicine clinical trials, determine pre-study requirements, register patients on protocols, initiate and complete required forms requiring attention to detail, ensure submission to central office per protocol, and to assist in resolving deficiencies and queries.
• Responsible for obtaining patient’s informed consent, including patient education, planning and coordinating care of the patient protocol, both in hospital and outpatient care. Coordinate patient care activities to facilitate the patient’s progress throughout the course of the research protocol, which may include but not limited to: clinical evaluation of patients, administration and adjustments of study medication, venipuncture and processing to obtain serum samples, obtaining EKG’s, coordination of patient and physician schedules, follow up telephone contact between clinic visits as needed to evaluate patient status.
• Monitor lab values and coordinate patient care as needed. Identify learning needs of patient/family and encourage compliance through education. Present the benefits of the study, medications. Enable patients to learn the skills necessary to care for themselves knowledgeably and responsibly in accordance with health care and research goals.
• Responsible for scheduling patient treatment with collaborating departments and gather data per protocol requirements. Schedule laboratory procedures for specimen review. Obtain tissue, blood, and urine samples, spin, centrifuge, freeze and ship per protocol requirement.
• Complies and retrieves research data as well as preparing data for event verification and site visits by sponsor representatives.
• Provides support to patients/families: educate, takes phone calls, provide emotional support/encouragement, reinforce and clarify previous information, updates regarding progress toward the protocol objectives.
• Participates in conferences, workshops, and meetings related to field of practice in School of Medicine, hospital and community.
• Acts as a consultant and resource person within area of expertise to colleagues, allied personnel, patients and families.
• Maintains clinical competence and theoretical expertise through formal and informal continuing education
Salary
Salary Range: $27.69 - $45.17/hour
Grade: PAT-009

Shift
Part-time.
Variable hours, including overnights and weekends, as required by research studies.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing School or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be obtained is necessary.
Possession of a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri is necessary.
Minimum of two years of recent nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or similar health care setting is required.
