Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology at Auburn University is seeking an IAM systems engineer whose primary focus will be in the area of Active Directory. The position is responsible for on-boarding and off-boarding users in Active Directory, programmatic group membership maintenance as well as ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of Auburn University’s Active Directory environment. The position will report to the Manager of the Identity and Access Management team and the selected candidate must be a self-starter, capable of working independently, under limited direction, and in a team environment.

Formal AU Title: Specialist, Information Technology (IV/V)

Essential Functions

The position is primarily responsible for ensuring eligible users are properly created, provisioned and de-provisioned in Auburn University’s Active Directory infrastructure as well as securing, managing, and improving the Active Directory environment to include daily monitoring and troubleshooting of basic Active Directory services.

This position will work closely with both internal OIT employees, the IT Service Desk, and distributed IT personnel located throughout the University.

Additional responsibilities include maintenance of the Azure AD Connect cloud synchronization service as well as troubleshooting synchronization issues between AU’s onsite Active Directory and AzureAD cloud environments.

Level IV (entry level) salaries are typically between $53K and $64K.

For Level IV only, college degrees may substitute towards the experience requirement at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

The Level V position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 4 or more years of relevant experience in AD and AzureAD environment. Salaries are typically between $64K and $75K.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

  1. In-depth knowledge of Active Directory infrastructure and all related services.
  2. Experience managing AD Connect, preferably in a hybrid environment.
  3. Working knowledge of DNS technologies as related to Active Directory.
  4. Experience troubleshooting locked user accounts.
  5. Experience managing OU permissions for OU administrators.
  6. Ability to develop/understand PowerShell scripts for administrative tasks.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

In addition to the minimum qualifications listed above, desired qualifications for this position include an earned degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution or relevant work experience. Other desired qualifications include a working knowledge of one or more of the following:

  1. 2+ years of Microsoft Active Directory domain administration.
  2. Experience auto-provisioning/deprovisioning user objects, group memberships and placement within AD via an IAM system such as Fischer Identity.
  3. Microsoft Office 365 licensing via dynamic AzureAD groups.
  4. Familiarity with updating Group Policy Administrative template ( ADMX and ADML ) files.
  5. Knowledge and support of Group Policy Objects ( GPO ).
  6. Experience with an incident resolution and change management system such as ServiceNow.
  7. Experience with AzureAD.
  8. Knowledge of Splunk logs to troubleshoot AD login and locked account issues.
  9. Experience with LDAP .
  10. Experience with SQL .
