The candidate will be expected to oversee and develop all aspects of the Jazz Studies program, including the Jazz Studies concentration. The candidate will also teach a course to non-majors that explores the art of music listening and musical styles from cultures around the world. The teaching load is four courses per semester, which will include conducting the Jazz Ensemble each semester. Other possible courses will include: art of music listening, improvisation, jazz music history, the business of music, jazz composition & arranging, coaching jazz combos, and teaching applied music. Qualifications
A terminal degree in Jazz Studies or a closely related field or an equivalent record of professional accomplishment in lieu of a terminal degree at the time of appointment is required. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially regarding socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Candidates must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and performance and have a record of (or clear potential for) distinguished scholarship and student mentorship. Experience working in the specialty area of Jazz Studies is desirable. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
