The HSCA Assistant Director serves as the primary academic advisor of HSCA students at the South Lake Campus, including advising, planning, and implementing student success and retention programs. The Assistant Director actively collaborates with high school counselors which may include spending time on high school campuses.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and manage academic advising initiatives for the HSCA coordinating with high school guidance offices to ensure high school graduation, maximize progress toward the Associate Degree and transfer to a baccalaureate program.

Serves as a referral agent for students in academic distress, which includes monitoring and record keeping via LSSC’s early alert system.

Delivers academic advising presentations aimed at reinforcing student academic and career exploration, and assists with the delivery of departmental advising services including new student orientation, recruitment, and intrusive advising strategies focused on at-risk populations.

Develop and manage academic support initiatives for the HSCA coordinating with libraries, learning centers, student accessibility services, and faculty to ensure high achievement and remediation.

Coordinate HSCA student recruitment admission including marketing, recruitment events, HSCA summits, and onboarding of prospective students and their families.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Master's degree from an accredited institution required in counseling, education, human services, or related area.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of professional experience working directly with students, preferably in academic advising, guidance, or professional schools. Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc. is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to foster a positive collaborative relationship between multiple organizations.

Ability to effectively facilitate advising and recruitment workshops and/or presentations to both large and small audiences.

Ability to maintain good working relations with students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
Demonstrate strong organization skills and leadership ability to work on a variety of assignments simultaneously.

Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Outlook and MS Office products.

Ability to utilize multiple computer applications to access and record student information. (LSSC uses Starfish, Canvas, Banner, Degree Works, MSOffice, and the Internet.)

Ability to work independently and multi-task, with attention to detail and with a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Promote a common purpose consistent with stated College goals and demonstrate a commitment to students and the learning environment.

Possess the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks.

Demonstrate the ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.

Provide quality customer service by creating a welcoming and supportive environment.

Present a professional image in word, action and attire.

Demonstrate professionalism in dealing with a diverse population while understanding and respecting each other’s view of the world, personalities and working styles.
