Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs, or processes.

Job Duties

  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
  2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
  3. May prepare or participate in creating abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  4. Reviews reports of budgets and activities. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  5. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships, and other operations.
  6. Develops, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  7. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, which includes recruitment, event planning, curriculum building, assessment, and report development
  2. Coordinate the Provost Undergraduate Research Scholarship (PURS) program, which includes recruitment, event planning, curriculum building, assessment, and report development
  3. Manage the Undergraduate Research Travel Fellowship program
  4. Advise students on undergraduate research and nationally competitive scholarships, such as the Fulbright and Critical Language Scholarship
  5. Access, maintain and analyze student records, which may include sensitive and confidential information
  6. Cultivate relationships with faculty from all disciplines and colleges at the university to advance undergraduate research and nationally competitive scholarships
  7. Create and deliver presentations on undergraduate research and nationally competitive scholarships to the campus community


Skills and Experience

  1. Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  2. Experience in working with underrepresented and first-generation university students
  3. Skilled in navigating bureaucratic systems and communicating with departments and units across campus
  4. Able to advise students with sensitivity and troubleshoot complicated programmatic issues
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and website development
  6. Possess knowledge of human resource management systems and accurate record-keeping

Bachelors and No experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
