Department of Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling
Required Qualifications:
- M.A., M.S., or M.Ed. degree in Special Education, or related
field. Degree at time of application or official notification of
completion of master's degree by August 1, 2022.
- A valid California Clear/Professional teaching
credential
- An excellent record of teaching or demonstrated potential for
teaching excellence at the college level appropriate to the
assignment
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to
culturally responsive practices
- Experience teaching in urban K-12 schools
- Teacher leadership experience
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse
student population
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with students with significant support
needs
- Experience supervising Education Specialist credential
candidates
- Training and/or experience teaching across the following
subject areas: Instruction for multilingual learners with
disabilities; Diversity and inclusive schools; Instruction for
students with significant support needs; Advocacy for students and
families; Disability studies
- Demonstrated experience working with populations
demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student
body
Duties: - Program Coordination of the Education Specialist Program
including admissions, advising, coursework, fieldwork, and
assessment of candidates
- Attend regular meetings at the department, college, regional
and state level related to credentialing
- Support students to meet credentialing requirements, including
Teacher Performance Assessments
- Teach courses and/or supervise credential candidates in the
subject areas: Instruction for multilingual learners with
disabilities; Diversity and inclusive schools; Instruction for
students with significant support needs; Advocacy for students and
families; Disability studies. [Mode of instruction may include
in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination
thereof.]
- Participate in service and attend department faculty meetings
and Education Specialist Credential Program meetings
