Job Description

The Career Development Coordinator, Intermediate helps support students by providing a range of services designed to guide students towards a strategic and dynamic approach to their career development and success to ensure a successful transition from college to further education or work. As a member of the Career Development Team, the Career Development Coordinator, Intermediate helps empower students and alumni to confidently navigate their careers as citizens of an evolving and global world. We are a dynamic team focused on preparing students for the 21st Century workforce and workplace though career advising and education and connecting students to job and internship providers. We are also responsible for collaborating with other NAU career development offices, a variety of student affairs programs, faculty, and other university departments to ensure that students receive a clear, consistent message regarding career development.

Program Development
  • Manage the design, development, implementation, and assessment of Career Development programming college-wide including individual appointments, group workshops, and self-paced resources (e.g., website, print materials), based on student needs and best practices.
  • Articulate the NAU-wide career development philosophy designed to meet the needs of NAU's student population and effectively prepare them for the realities of the 21st century workforce; develop or oversee the development of programs grounded in this philosophy.
  • Achieve goals established by Career Development and the College of Business; report on progress and recommend changes to program based on assessment results.
  • Manage the design, development, implementation of program departmental goals, strategies/tactics and performance measures.
  • Manage specific projects throughout the project lifecycle from conceptualization through development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Set objectives for projects and assignments.
  • Collect and analyze data, assess the effectiveness and impact of the Career development program. Collect and analyze data (qualitative and quantitative) to assess the effectiveness and impact of Career Development programming.
  • Maintain current knowledge of career development, employment and recruiting trends, college student development, and other related topics as appropriate.

Career Advising and Education
  • Advise individual students on resume/cover letter development, interview skills, and job search strategies, for student employment, internships, and full time employment.
  • Provide expertise to students on a variety of career exploration tools and related resources.
  • Works with students to help them identify and articulate their transferable skills and career readiness competencies.
  • Conduct workshops of varying size and various topics on all possible career topics. Conducts workshops/trainings to assist students in creating a resume, developing interviewing skills, job search strategies, professional interactions, etc.
  • Customize and deliver/college program-specific programming or other specialized initiatives.
  • Assist in planning/implementation of career and job fairs, inforamtion sessions, webinars, guest speaker events and networking events, etc.

Internal and External Partnerships
  • Serve as a liaison for students and alumni, employers and other departments within the university.
  • Develop and nurture relationships across the university with departments/stakeholders.
  • Serve as liaison to one or more Student Affairs programs (e.g., Transfer and Commuter Connections, First Generation), developing and nurturing relationships with staff and student leaders, building deep functional knowledge of career development needs of that program's student population.
  • Develop and build strong relationships within the college(s) with faculty, academic advisors, career development offices where applicable, and other staff, building deep functional knowledge of the career development needs of that college's student population.
  • Serve as liaison to one or more FCB departments. For all liaison roles, identify student career development needs.
  • Represent Career Development at NAU, regionally and beyond at professional events.
  • Represent the Career Development team during interactions with individuals that contact the office through phone, email, in person, etc.

Supervision and Team Development
  • Provide direction and guidance and assign tasks related to specific projects to undergraduate student employees. Coordinate the activities of student employees assisting with assigned projects, review and provide feedback on work products, and provide general mentoring and guidance.
  • Recommend and/or initiate actions related to student employee discipline, promotion, transfer and/or motivation.
  • Assign student staff to projects based on their strengths, interests, skillsets, and professional/personal growth needs. Balance workload and assignments and identify professional development opportunities for skill building.
  • Manage and track key tasks across the unit/department.

Program Marketing and Promotion
  • Assist with the design of informational materials related to career development tools and resources.
  • Develop communications, working with NAU entities to promote Career Development's services and benefits electronically, online, in print and other technology platforms.
  • Update and maintain the career events calendar.

Other
  • Serve on committees, such as: Hiring committees and Career Task force, and Advisory Committees for the college.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate bachelor's degree
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • Any combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • 2 or more years supervisory experience.
  • 2 or more years university career development office experience.
  • 2 or more years of post-undergraduate experience.
  • 2 or more years experience teaching of facilitating workshops in higher education.
  • Experience developing and nurturing stakeholder relationships across a large, diverse organization.
  • Experience assessing programs utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
