Position Summary:
The Director of Recruitment, MBA for Professionals (MBA-P) program is a member of the Atkinson School's leadership team and works with school leadership and other internal and external stakeholders to provide strategic direction, management, and hands-on service in all aspects of the program's operations, especially recruitment, admission, and retention of students. Among the duties for which this position is responsible, the Director of Recruitment collaborates to: 1) manage enrollment, including admission policy creation and implementation, scholarship development and disbursement, and recruitment planning and assessment to fulfill annual goals for enrollment, increase student retention and tuition revenue, and market the program; 2) provide student support services, including course scheduling; 3) engage with community and employers to develop programs and partnerships that generate enrollment and create opportunities for current students and alumni; 4) assist in the management of the Willamette MBA Portland Center at 200 Market Street; and 5) provide general programmatic and administrative support to the MBA-P program, its faculty, students, and staff.
This position reports to, and works closely with, the Senior Associate Dean to ensure overall program quality and performance, meet enrollment goals, and achieve strategic priorities, as well as to provide excellent comprehensive services to the Atkinson School's students, faculty, and alumni. This position is based in Portland, Oregon, but requires travel to Salem on a routine basis.

Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, and Recruitment:
  • Directly supervises Assistant Directors of Recruitment in the development, execution, and assessment of recruitment and yield activities in the MBA-P program;
  • Develops the annual recruitment and admission plan for the MBA-P program; works with senior leadership to set and implement an admission and scholarship plan that meets enrollment and revenue goals;
  • Maintains applicant and program data; drafts summarizing reports for internal and external audiences;
  • Works directly with the Executive Vice President for Enrollment Management and Atkinson leadership to develop admission and financial aid/scholarship standards and criteria; develops and implements scholarship policies and matrices to meet annual enrollment, profile, and discount rate goals;
  • Oversees the MBA-P application process, including operational workflows and credential intake and verification; works to ensure procedural compliance with federal policies, regulations and laws related to admission and financial aid;
  • Conducts applicant interviews; serves as a primary point of contact for applicants from point of inquiry through matriculation;
  • Admits and awards scholarships to applicants to the MBA-P program; drafts admission letters and other supporting documents;
  • Assists with managing communication workflow related to recruitment and yield activities, alumni relations, community outreach, and some student programming; works with the University's Director of Marketing Communication and Atkinson's Marketing Director to develop web and media content, including recruitment publications and correspondence;
  • ​Manages the recruitment CRM (Slate), including filter and query development, event and registration page creation, and database management. Collaborates with outside consultants to develop customized content, as well as ensure overall system performance and integration;
  • Builds relationships and conducts informational visits and calls with local employers, agencies, organizations, and members of the community; actively promotes the MBA-P program in a variety of contexts and communities within the Willamette Valley.
  • Recruits students through on-campus and off-campus activities and programs, including visits to organizations and employers, career fairs, networking events, forums, receptions, etc.

Student Affairs and Support:

  • Plans and facilitates multiple student orientation programs, as well as the annual MBA-P commencement activities;
  • Assists with arbitrating and resolving issues related to student retention, including academic probation, course selection and withdrawal, scholarship qualification, and honor code violations;
  • Ensures excellence in every aspect of delivery of the MBA-P program; works with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to develop opportunities for student engagement and retention;
  • Assists with the review and revision of the MBA-P Student Handbook;
  • Assists the Office of Career Management in the development, execution, and assessment of career-related programs and services; provides necessary applicant employment data to the Office of Career Management.

  • Assists in the daily management of the Willamette MBA Portland Center, including contracted services providers (building management, catering, custodial, and security) and interactions with local business and community associations;
  • Works with the Dean's Office to analyze and reconcile the MBA-P recruitment and operations budgets; improves programmatic efficiency by managing costs and expenditures; and protect and ensures proper utilization of University resource and monies;
  • Prepares tuition forecast reports for Atkinson's Fiscal and Accreditation Officer and coordinates tuition and billing processes and scholarship disbursement;
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to plan the annual MBA for Professionals course schedule and Integrated Knowledge Experience Week (IKEW) activities; ensures academic regulations and expectations are well-communicated and followed;
  • Maintains strong and collegial relationships with members of the University's senior management team, as well as Atkinson leadership, faculty, and staff.
  • Safeguards confidential information by exercising discretion in communications to faculty, students, staff, alumni, donors, and external audiences related to admission/recruitment and student/alumni records and files, personnel matters, performance evaluations, grade reports, promotion and tenure decisions, and all other confidential issues or materials.

  • Either an MBA from an AACSB-accredited institution or an equivalent master's degree and solid skills in post-secondary program management, especially in the admissions area.
  • Five years' management experience in a successful college or university program, especially in the area of enrollment management;
  • Demonstrated managerial excellence, including budgetary acumen, in academic, nonprofit/government, or corporate setting(s);
  • Experience with and commitment to Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) standards and expectations for professional behavior;
  • Experience working with prospective and matriculating students, advising, marketing, statistics, data analysis, financial aid, academic policy, report writing, web applications, CRM or database management system, data input, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and institutional research skills. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, and programs to a broad constituency.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, trustees, government and nonprofit officials, and business leaders in a manner that positively portrays the University and its programs, personnel, and philosophy.
  • Commitment to, and familiarity with, AACSB and/or NASPAA continuing accreditation and associated compliance processes and procedures.
  • Comfort with working on two campuses (i.e., Salem and Portland) on a variable schedule as duties require.
  • Previous responsibility for successful AACSB and/or NASPAA accredited MBA program(s) design, implementation, and/or on-going management.
  • Previous responsibility for successful AACSB MBA admission program(s) for and evening or part-time MBA program.
  • A demonstrated high degree of judgment and discretion in task fulfillment and skill in effectively executing several activities for both students and alumni. Operates alone and as a team-member on a wide variety of projects that have a significant impact on the functions of the Atkinson Graduate School of Management and the University.
  • Ability to appreciate the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings, as well as to travel in- and out-of state.
  • Must reside in Oregon by first day of employment or be able to perform work primarily in Oregon.

Salary: $80,000

Typical Work Schedule

Standard office work week; some evenings and weekends, travel required.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.
