JOB SUMMARY

The Nursing Laboratory Coordinator Skills & Simulation Lab and Examination Proctor (NLC & EP) is a Registered Nurse (RN) faculty member who has responsibility for planning, quality improvement and day-to-day coordination of the Skills & Simulation Lab instructional activities and managing of supplies and Proctoring of exams.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Coordination of the Skills and Simulation lab instructional activities includes assisting course faculty with the planning and managing of simulation experiences, assisting faculty and students with the teaching and learning of course related skills and assisting other faculty with evaluation of students. Coordination of the Skill and Simulation lab Supply responsibilities includes maintaining appropriate inventory, stocking and ordering of supplies.

The NLC & EP priority will be to schedule and be present in open labs to assist students across the curriculum during times appropriate to student schedules. Examination Proctor (EP) responsibilities include scheduling and proctoring tests, teacher-made or other third-party secured exams in the nursing computer lab and other rooms as necessary. It is an expectation that the individual is licensed or eligible for licensure in California.

The NLC & EP at the Palm Desert Campus is a half time semester position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor degree in nursing from a regionally-accredited university.
  • At least 1 year teaching experience at a college or university level
  • Unencumbered California license to practice nursing
  • Three-five-years of strong clinical nursing experience in acute patient care and/or community care
  • Knowledge and understanding of human pathophysiology
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning in nursing education
  • Demonstrated information literacy skills
  • Demonstrated technology integration skills to include vendor-specific (ATI) instructional tools
  • Familiarity with relevant accreditation and regulatory imperatives in nursing and higher education
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity
  • Basic Life Support CPR Instructor certification
  • Motivated team-player with the desire to share creative solutions and best practices
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in nursing is preferred

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Nursing continues to evolve toward improved collaboration and innovation in nursing education, scholarship, practice and service. We average over 350 undergraduate Nursing majors in the generic pre-licensure BSN program based on twice a year admissions [Fall and Winter]. The generic BSN program is offered at San Bernardino as well as at the Palm Desert Campus [Fall admission only]. The RN to BSN program for individuals who already possess a California RN license is offered at both sites. At the Palm Desert Campus, the RN to BSN program is hybrid, with courses offered mostly via distance learning. The MSN program [hybrid] continues to grow and attract more applicants every year.
