Department Summary

The Veterans Success Center supports former, current, and future service members of the United States Armed Forces and their dependents with the transition from higher education to career, navigation through their academic experience, and celebration of their service and achievements by offering high-quality support services, resources, and events. The Veterans Success Center offers dynamic programs that are comprehensive in scope and sensitive to the unique needs of service members, which includes: new student veterans' orientation; a monthly seminar series; weekly mental health support group; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) tutoring; SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society; veterans' graduation celebration; complimentary printing; free test-taking materials; advocacy and referral services; refrigerator and microwave; complimentary arts and crafts; and a military veterans writers group.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Veterans Success Center Director, the School Certifying Official/Department Analyst will serve student veterans, dependents, and other students who receive VA benefits, as well as act as the office coordinator for the Veterans Success Center. This position will coordinate day-to-day operations, special events, ITS support services, and completes certifications with the VA and DoD that total over $5 million annually in federal benefits, serving as the primary liaison to external partners.

Employment Status: Full-time, "exempt" probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

*The initial review of applications will begin on August 20, 2021.

Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; evenings and weekends will be required to support department and/or division events.
  • Must be able to travel to the Palm Desert Campus.

Key Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty.
  • Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques.
  • Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Skill in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form.
  • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
  • Must obtain a CA Driver License.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, PLUS two (2) years of related experience.
  • Experience and knowledge working with military veterans, their dependents, and veterans' educational benefits.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills utilizing independent judgment and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of higher education experience, preferably in veterans' affairs.
  • History of working with military-affiliated students, familiar with the culture and appreciation of the US military, interest in military-affiliated programming, and professional development in this area.
  • Experience in PeopleSoft, EAB, OnBase, VAOnce, DoD MOU is preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and how to prioritize projects.
  • Work collaboratively with diverse staff, faculty, and students.
  • Prior higher education experience.


Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,167.00 - $4,584.00 (monthly)

Classification Salary Range: $3,897.00 - $7,051.00 (monthly)
