Multimedia Production Associate, BCPI

Johns Hopkins University seeks a Multimedia Production Associate for the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation (the Center). The Center is quickly becoming a globally recognized organization focused on advancing the art and science of public sector innovation, especially among local governments. The Center works to increase awareness of the impact of local government innovation with a special emphasis on the ways in which residents contribute to the design, development, and delivery of new services and policy approaches.

Working closely with the Director of Communications, the Multimedia Production Associate will support the build-out of the Center’s expansive communications efforts and produce creative stories in the form of videos, podcasts, and other assets. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the technical aspects of production across multiple mediums, tremendous storytelling skills, and passion about the work of the new Center.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and produce compelling stories in different mediums, particularly video and audio, highlighting the work of cities to solve pressing problems and deliver better results for residents
  • Work with colleagues at the Center to develop story ideas and production plans that respond to the latest trends in cities and the interests of city innovators
  • Ability to distill complex concepts in the field of government innovation and identify storylines
  • Work with elected officials and city innovators to tell stories about their work
  • Provide mentorship and day-to-day management to the Production Assistant
  • Collaborate with outside vendors and provide clear instruction and feedback to create polished, cohesive products
  • Expand the Center’s expertise in production and how multimedia can advance the public innovation field
  • Monitor timelines and meet project goals and deadlines

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 5 years of experience filming, directing and editing creative, compelling video and photography content

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience producing multimedia content for public audiences including, but not limited to, video, podcasts, and animations
  • Ability to work productively with a range of partners and subjects, including elected event managers, membership professionals, and executives
  • Track record of identifying and shaping storytelling opportunities and producing polished products for public audiences
  • Technical abilities to lead and execute content capture and final edits, including color grading, sound leveling, and other final polish measures as needed
  • A basic understanding of the types of challenges municipal governments typically face preferred
  • High proficiency in video editing software (e.g. Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier), WordPress, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project management software, and virtual meeting platforms; working knowledge of HTML and CSS; proficiency in social media and other digital marketing tools
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to set priorities and respond quickly as priorities change
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collect and synthesize information and provide summary reports
  • Excellent content creation and writing skills
  • Ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently
  • Experience in engaging others to support a movement
