Job Description Summary

The Career Development Coordinator position will hold one-on-one and group career coaching engagements on career development, and career-related decision making. Offers a variety of career assessments, job/internship search strategies such as networking, resume writing and interview preparation.

The incumbent coordinates and assists with overall Argyros School Career Services efforts through presentations, providing orientation support, and helping to implement successful career-related events. Assists with marketing initiatives for the office, including print, electronic and other relevant marketing channels. Maintains active participation in professional associations to develop and expand employer network. Develop career services skills and knowledge and access to career resources.

This position trains and oversees student workers regarding schedules, tasks, and assignments. Performs related duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions within this role.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized practical and action-oriented career coaching without specific guidelines to students and alumni, to include job/internship search strategy, document review, networking techniques, interview prep, and salary negotiation, etc.
  • Advise students in leveraging the use of social media and other technology in their search strategy. Create, build, and deliver career education programming to students and alumni by way of workshops, classroom visits, panels, company visits, etc., by partnering and levering the Chapman University community.
  • Assess the needs of academic stakeholders to develop and provide programming that meets the interests of Argyros students, faculty, and employers.
  • Serve as the information center for specific industry areas/career sectors; and maintaining current information on recruiting practices, timelines, and industry trends. Coordinate and assist with various marketing/advertising activities to include print, social media, and other marketing mediums. Work collaboratively with other departments to promote career services within the Argyros School.
  • Collaborate with student clubs to increase traction and plan for career related activities. Support overall career services for the Argyros School through outreach presentations, providing orientation support, and helping to implement successful career fairs or special events. Represent career services at various off-campus and university-related events.
  • Oversees student assistants regarding tasks, duties, and assignments. Train and orient student workers on policies, procedures, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in career development or recruitment function.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of undergraduate students.
  • Working knowledge of career relations and services, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.
  • Strong technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and departmental tools.
  • Analytical skills to think strategically in developing and implementing innovative and engaging programs to ensure effective learning outcomes, meaningful engagement, and quality education, and to effectively evaluate programs and recommend changes.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative without constant supervision and to carry out duties in a timely manner.
  • Able to prioritize duties when faced with a fluctuating workload along with interruptions and distractions.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan, prioritize multiple projects, and complete them in a timely manner.
  • Writing skills to prepare clear and concise, grammatically correct business correspondence, strong editing, and proofreading skills to assist with resume and cover letters.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and applications for career searches and development.
  • Computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, internet, and electronic mail software, preferably Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to network, create and maintain relationships with employers, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Supervisory skills to train and motivate staff and student workers.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in using enterprise and data management tools.
