Accepts photo assignments from Editor-in-Chief and/or other editors, then shoots photos, collects cutline information and writes cutlines by established deadlines.




Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Accepts and completes photography assignments, ethically edits raw photos and collaborates with Photo Editor and/or other editors to ensure the creation of quality images for publication.
  • Collects and supplies photo information, including names, hometowns, and titles, majors or other descriptors of all persons in photos. Writes cutlines for each submitted photo.


Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.



Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
    Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours at JCCC each semester and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA
    Photography skills
    Must demonstrate writing skills. Applicant may be given a writing test during interview


    Preferred Qualifications
    Adobe Photoshop skills
    Successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in JOUR 145 Photojournalism, JOUR 120 Mass Media and Society, JOUR 122 News Writing and Reporting, JOUR 127 Introduction to Broadcasting and/or JOUR 227 Basic Video Production (transcript required if not taken at JCCC)
    Previous experience working with a student publication
    Knowledge of Associated Press style
