Accepts story assignments from Editor-in-Chief and/or other
editors, then conducts necessary research and interviews
appropriate subjects to gather information and write
student-centered, publishable stories. Assists with written story's
conversion to broadcast script when applicable.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Accepts and completes story assignments by set deadlines,
utilizing research and interview skills to write publishable
- Assists appropriate editor(s) to plan and cover campus-focused,
- When appropriate, works with editor(s) and other staff to turn
stories into viable scripts available for broadcast.
Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may
be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of
management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at
any time, as required by business necessity.
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours at JCCC each
semester and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
Must demonstrate writing/editing skills. Applicant may be given a
writing test during interview.
Microsoft Word skills.
Successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in JOUR 120 Mass
Media and Society, JOUR 122 News Writing and Reporting, JOUR 127
Introduction to Broadcasting, JOUR 145 Photojournalism, and/or JOUR
227 Basic Video Production (transcript required if not taken at
Previous experience working with a student publication.
Knowledge of Associated Press style.
Knowledge of broadcast writing style.
