Open Rank Clinical Professor & Program Director

About the Opportunity

The Department of Medical Sciences within the Bouve College of Health Sciences is seeking a 52-week, full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure track open rank Clinical Professor & Program Director. This position is responsible for the overall management of the Physician Assistant Program, including curriculum design, ongoing curriculum and program evaluation, the management of the program budget, facilitation of the applicant admissions process, supervision of faculty, medical director, and administrative support staff, teaching, part-time faculty recruitment, clinical rotation site development, and accreditation maintenance. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences. This faculty position permits up to one day per week of clinical practice.

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall management of the Physician Assistant Program, to include:
    • Program administration and organization
    • Program planning and development
    • Continuous programmatic review and analysis
  • Provide effective leadership by exhibiting:
    • Responsiveness to issues related to personnel
    • Strong communication skills
    • Proactive problem solving
  • Fiscal management of the program
  • Manage the Physician Assistant Program accreditation requirements, to include:
    • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge on accreditation requirements
    • Completing all ARC-PA required documents
    • Adherence to all ARC-PA Standards and Policies
    • Ensuring that the Program meets all ARC-PA guidelines and standards
  • Supervise PA Program principal faculty, instructional faculty, medical director, and administrative staff
  • Represent the Northeastern University PA Program to the University and to the surrounding health care community in a positive and professional manner
  • Participate in the development of and revision of the PA Program mission statement, goals, and core values of the program
  • Oversee both the didactic and clinical components of the curriculum which includes program planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Chair the Admissions Committee, participate fully in the admissions process including selection of applicants for admission to the program
  • Actively recruit and mentor prospective applicants to the PA Program
  • Coordinate and teach courses based on areas of content and clinical expertise
  • Advise and mentor students; participate in all aspects of recruitment, retention, and academic progression.
  • Serve on all appropriate School, College, and University committees
  • Liaise with the regional medical community for the development of clinical rotation sites and to promote the academic and career development of Northeastern PA students and graduates
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document the academic performance of students to ensure that they successfully achieve the program learning outcomes and all criteria for successful completion of both the didactic courses and clinical rotations
  • Ensure student remedial instruction is available to students
  • Participate in ongoing program review and the continuous self-study process
  • Perform additional assignments at the direction of the Chair of the Department of Medical Sciences


Qualifications
  • Physician Assistant with current or emeritus certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Minimum of a master's degree in a field related to physician assistant practice or the education of physician assistant students, doctorate preferred but not required, by appointment start date.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by appointment start date.
  • A minimum of (3) three years of full-time higher education experience
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency with computer technology (i.e. word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the physician assistant profession
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledgeable about ARC-PA accreditation standards and the self-study process


Preferred Qualifications
  • The Program Director/Clinical Professor ideally will have experience in as many of the following areas as possible: prior administrative experience, strategic planning and budgeting, resource allocation and assessment planning; program accreditation; technology integration into the educational experience; and on-line learning.
