In 2020, CCC launched “Our Path Forward,” outlining a 5-year strategic plan with a vision to be recognized as the city’s most accessible higher education engine of socioeconomic mobility and racial equity – empowering all Chicagoans to take part in building a stronger and more just city.

In this plan, CCC committed to expanding access for adult learners to our many program offerings to increase economic mobility across our Chicago communities. In partnership with local Community Partners, CCC seeks to provide adult learners with a welcoming environment where they can easily access needed information and resources and receive personalized assistance as they make their decision to return to college, develop a plan, and move through the enrollment process. Additionally, CCC seeks to meet the complex needs of adult learners to support retention, persistence, and academic success, leveraging district-wide and community resources to support stability and deepen safety nets.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Community and Legislative Affairs, theExecutive Director-Adult Learner Strategy and Partnershipsplays a critical role in designing, developing, and incubating district-wide pilot initiatives and corresponding strategies that improve recruitment, CCC experience, persistence, and time to completion for adult learners.

TheExecutive Directorfunctions in a highly collaborative role, both internally and externally, working closely with the Chief of Staff and Strategy to refinethe Community Connections partnership model and identify additional partners and models of collaboration. Responsible for leveraging community partnerships for initial outreach, identification, and recruitment of targeted prospective student populations of adult learners and addressing barriers to completion by identifying available and needed resources and supports at scale.

TheExecutive Directoralso works collaboratively with college and district teams to develop and enhance strategy and operationalize processes that provide the framework for CCC to connect with and support adult learners. Manages a small team of Community Partner and Adult Learner Liaisons directing work with adult learners, community partners, and colleges.

TheExecutive Directorprovides thought partnership and capacity to the development and implementation of the District’s five-year vision and strategic framework related to adult learners. Supports the Chief of Staff and Strategy, senior administrators and college leaders in the dissemination and uptake of new innovations and practices related to adult learners across the District and leveraging critical partnerships with community-based organizations.

Travel on a regular basis to community sites and colleges and availability to work some evenings and weekends is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Guides strategy and operationalizes holistic support for adults, including identifying service gaps and developing strategies and processes to address them, in coordination with district leadership.
  • Identifies and cultivates community and faith-based organizational partnerships for participation in Community Connections efforts, in collaboration with district leadership.
  • Manages and oversees the work of Community Partner & Adult Learner Liaisons in their on-going operations with community partners to ensure fidelity of implementation and to support ongoing training of community ambassadors.
  • Supports Community Partner & Adult Learner Liaisons and ensures they are equipped to recruit, hire, and train high quality community ambassadors by providing resources and needed support.
  • Monitors the training of community ambassadors and their work in the community promoting and providing information about CCC’s educational programs and student support services to prospective students including adult learners.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with community partners and college and district staff to build a seamless transition to, and through, CCC for adult learners.
  • Convenes partners for input and communication as needed.
  • Reports out on progress of efforts to district leadership on a regular basis.
  • Captures strategic insights from the field and implements operational changes to strengthen and improve processes and increase level of outreach and recruitment of adult learners.
  • Serves as a key point of contact to partners, funders, district, and college leadership to report successes, challenges, and emerging best practices related to adult learners at CCC.
  • Works with Community Partner & Adult Learner Liaisons to ensure service and relational gaps are identified and that CCC creates a welcoming, safe, and personalized connection for adult learners.
  • Works collaboratively with college teams and other key stakeholders to create a seamless transition from application through enrollment and registration process for adult learners.
  • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred
  • Eight years of work experience in the areas of post-secondary education, adult learners, and community engagement
  • Two years of management experience preferred
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
  • A valid State of Illinois driver’s license
  • Must be able to travel frequently to and between CCC campuses and to meet with community partner organizations
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
  • Passion for supporting students, especially adult learners
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to details and take initiative
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and dependability
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and innovate
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of CCC academic programs and pathways, enrollment procedures, financial aid preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Moderate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
