Position Purpose

The Dartmouth Cancer Center ( DCC ) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Program Specialist in our Office of Community Outreach and Engagement.
The role of the Program Specialist is to coordinate and perform administrative and programmatic support functions for the DCC community outreach, education, research, and engagement programmatic initiatives to have a positive impact on the populations we serve. The Specialist will work collaboratively with internal (e.g., clinicians, researchers, information technology staff, marketing and communications teams, clinical operations staff, system partners) and external (e.g., public health agencies, community-based organizations, coalitions, National Cancer Institute) stakeholders to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the program.
The Program Specialist will support a variety of community-focused research, outreach, and engagement projects, including:
  • A grant-funded project to implement and evaluate programming for patients and the public about colorectal cancer screening in an effort to increase knowledge and uptake of colorectal cancer screening.
  • A pilot project to support New Hampshire and Vermont residents in identifying and addressing cancer risk factors (e.g., arsenic, radon) in their home. This may include working with providers and other stakeholders to educate residents about arsenic and/or radon, provide them with water and/or air test kits for their homes, and support them with high test results in taking steps to reduce their arsenic and/or radon levels.
  • Community Engagement Studios, which are one-time advisory meetings with a group of community members who represent a researcher’s population of research interest; through studios, we are able to solicit feedback from community members to improve a given research project and make it more patient- and community- centered.
  • Other infrastructure projects to help ensure that the Dartmouth Cancer Center’s research is reflective of and responsive to our community’s cancer burden and health needs. This may include supporting community advisory boards and efforts to include community advisors on research projects, participating in community coalitions focused on cancer, and coordinating community events and evidence-based interventions.
Our successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, and excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. The ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously is key, given the various projects our Program Specialist will be supporting.
