Summary:

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry is seeking a full-time Instructional Design Specialist in the Department of Information Technology to support technology and personnel in the School of Dentistry’s classroom, conference room spaces, and assessment protocol.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate technology needs into courses/lectures
  • Provide technical and curricular support for Learning Management Systems
  • Provide technical and curricular support for course materials (example: linking video clip in PowerPoint presentation)
  • Train faculty and staff in instructional technology and media. This may include the design of print and web-based training materials, conducting one-on-one training, or group sessions and workshops
  • Train students in the proper use of a computer-based testing program and Employee Health Records (EHR)
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting during student exams; triage hardware and software related issues
  • Assist with orienting new faculty to use computer-based testing program and how it is used for both student course level assessment and yields data for use in overall degree program assessment
  • Ensure exam spaces, either on-premises or virtually have appropriate technology functioning optimally
  • Assist with maintaining and managing calendar and production schedule for all computer-based examinations
  • Assesses, analyzes, monitors, and manages classroom and conference room technology to ensure optimal functionality of all technical resources (creates a current-state inventory that is used to create a future-state upgrade path)
  • Supports end-users with at-the-elbow go-live support in all classroom and conference room spaces
  • Assist faculty with the use of lecture capture system and linking recordings to courses for student viewing
  • Assist faculty with the use of podium equipment in lecture halls (Zoom, media switching technologies, audio and microphones, etc.)
  • Ensures all classroom and conference room equipment is functioning each day and creates a daily checklist to ensure the functionality of all equipment
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training and experience
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software (Windows and Mac operating systems)
  • Knowledge of audio and video equipment
  • Intermediate computer related troubleshooting steps
  • Experience supporting clinical applications in a patient care environment, with dental experience preferred
  • Previous experience in instructional technology (LMS, computer-based testing, audience response)
