Online MBA Teaching Assistant - School of Business

Position Summary:

The Graduate Studies department in the VCU School of Business is looking to hire a dynamic teaching assistant to work with the Online MBA Program. The teaching assistant will work hand-in-hand with professors who administer online courses.

Duties include:

Setting up courses in Canvas and other related technology

Being virtually present during class video meeting times in the evening to assist the Professor with student interactions

Potentially researching topics or technologies for the course

Setting up exams

Monitoring student participation

Responding in a timely manner (within 24 hours) to requests from students and instructors

Working with technology support and videographers to ensure the seamless implementation of courses

Schedule:

Estimated work hours are approximately 20 hours per week. Most work can be performed virtually with the exception of one weekend in late August when the students are on campus.

It is required that the teaching assistant attend all video conference call course sessions (every Wednesday night and three Tuesday nights from 7-9pm each semester).

Additionally, the Teaching Assistant must have availability during the day for occasional course preparation meetings with faculty and a weekly team meeting.

On one weekend each August (last weekend before Labor Day), the teaching assistant must come to campus for our residency weekend with students (a full day Friday, 8am-5pm, and most of the day on Saturday, 8am - 3pm).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

Proficient with technology, MS Office, Google Workspace and video conferencing

Organized with an eye for details

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work with others virtually

Must be committed to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment as a member of the team

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in curriculum design and online learning

Experience with Canvas or Blackboard

Work experience in a University environment with students and professors

Salary Range: $15-$17 per hour
