Job Summary/Basic Function

This is skilled work in the construction, installation, repair, restoration, and maintenance of structures and articles made from wood, composite, and wood substitute materials.

An employee in this job performs skilled carpentry tasks in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Work involves independent judgement in individual trade performance, various degrees of specialization depending on the location of assignments and may involve lead worker responsibility. This position requires the use of hand, power, and industrial tools to measure, cut, construct, and install materials and products according to dimensional requirements and specifications. Work includes reading blueprints and drawings and selecting tools and materials. Work is performed independently and checked upon completion for adherence to guidelines, quality, and timeliness standards by a supervisor.

Annual Salary Range: $36,245.00 plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, including:
  • Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium. Employees pay 5% of bi-weekly salary for benefit coverage with ability to pay 2.5% when participating in the wellness program.
  • Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days
  • Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days.
  • Group life insurance – equal to annual salary (up to $40,000.00) at no cost to the employee
  • Retirement – 2 plans to choose from
  • Tuition waiver – employee, spouse, and dependents are eligible
  • Vacation leave – up to 11 days accrued per year for first 3 years, increases to 19 days per year after 3 years
  • Sick leave – up to 11 days accrued per year, including up to 5 days per year that can be taken to care for a family member
  • Holiday leave – Up to 12 days per calendar year

Required Qualifications
  • Four years of experience in the carpentry trade, OR completion of an approved apprenticeship OR any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Knowledge of: the methods, materials, tools and practices of the carpentry trade and the qualities and uses of various types of wood, the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the carpentry trade, the care and use of hand, power, and industrial tools and the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships; make simple estimates of time and materials, inspect lumber for grade and quality and work from sketches and plans.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a facilities maintenance department.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
