Position Summary

The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for Reed Library’s cataloguing functions and implementation of the Library’s catalog within a shared integrated library system (ILS), Sierra. This position oversees systems administration of Sierra and works with our consortial administrator, Marmot, in the maintenance of the ILS. The salary range for this position is $54,500 to $56,500 plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications
  • ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science or equivalent
  • Recent experience cataloging a variety of bibliographic and physical formats in an integrated library system
  • Experience or substantial education regarding LCSH and LCC systems, RDA standards, MARC format, and standard cataloging practices
  • Experience or substantial education with name, subject, and series authority control
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success,
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with OCLC bibliographic record utility
  • Knowledge of an ILS Circulation module
  • Experience delivering reference in an academic library
  • Experience offering liaison services to academic departments
  • Supervisory experience
Major Responsibilities

Technical Services
  • Supervise and/or perform cataloging and classification of Library materials; provide accurate bibliographic authority, item description, and classification of materials by creating and maintaining MARC records in the consortial library catalog and OCLC bibliographic utility database.
  • Supervise 1 FTE staff that performs copy cataloging and processes materials in a wide variety of formats
  • Perform activities dealing with bibliographic control of library materials, implementing national and consortium standards
  • Obtain and import/export batch loads of bibliographic records from vendors and other entities using load tables
  • Collaborate with others, to include:
    • Collections & Research Services Librarian on item record download matters
    • Access Services Librarian on matters related to circulation functions in ILS
    • Marmot Library Network for issues related to catalog content
  • Maintain communication with the library’s ILS consortium, taking responsibility for local implementation of the library catalog.
  • Maintain and assist in the administration of Reed Library’s integrated library system by developing a deep understanding of the Circulation and Cataloguing modules, in addition to Sierra’s Settings and other Admin functions.
  • Develop a working familiarity of Sierra loan rules, loan rule determiner table, item locations, and Item and patron types, particularly as they pertain to both Circulation and Cataloging modules.
  • Serve as the primary trouble-shooting and communications liaison with our systems consortium administrator, Marmot.
Other Responsibilities
  • Provide academic reference service in person, using chat and email, and through individual consultations
  • Serve as library liaison to assigned departments, including providing specialized instruction as needed
  • Participate in collection development for academic departments as assigned
  • Participate in Reed Librarians Council, Budget Team, other library governance teams, campus committees, and Marmot Library Network committees as assigned
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Reach, stoop, kneel to retrieve items in the Library or have an alternative means to retrieve items in the Library • Specific vision abilities required include close vision requirements for computer work or the use of a technology that serves this purpose
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required

The salary range for this position is $54,500 to $56,500 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
