Job Summary:

Develop Grading Methods: The Wisconsin Reading Center provides core imaging lab support to multicenter clinical trials. As imaging technology and indications for therapeutics keep evolving, there is a need for developing new image evaluation methods. This will require an understanding of imaging formats, artifacts, qualitative and quantitative assessment of disease parameters. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert in supporting research program managers and graders in scientific aspects of grading.

Biomarker Research: The Wisconsin Reading Center collaborates with both NIH and industry partners in imaging biomarker research. This requires identification of novel imaging features that can be predictive of disease progression or prognosis and designing clinical studies to reproducibility identify and quantify these features. A thorough understanding of disease process and up to date knowledge on literature is required to conduct this cutting-edge research.

Liaison with Study Sponsors: The Wisconsin Reading Center assists in developing study protocol and statistical analysis plan for clinical trials in collaboration with industry sponsors. This requires communication of reading center workflow, evaluation procedures, imaging outcomes that are applicable for the trial and analysis methods.

Other duties:
Participate in developing grants applications to federal and private agencies
Assist in research meetings to develop goals, plan studies and updates on project status
Participate in management of timelines and progress of multiple ongoing research projects
Document research study methods and analytic steps and results for manuscript publications and progress reports
Develop PowerPoints to describe research and associated results
Participate in national and international meetings for dissemination of research
Assist faculty with educational and mentoring of research students

Responsibilities:

Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

• 25% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
• 20% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
• 20% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
• 10% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
• 25% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
MD, PhD, or MD/PhD, or equivalent (includes MBBS and DNB).

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- One (1) year of ophthalmology clinical experience.
- One (1) year experience performing comprehensive examinations of the visual system to determine the nature or extent of ocular disorders.
- One (1) year experience diagnosing or treating injuries, disorders, or diseases of the eye and eye structures including the retina.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in ophthalmic/ retinal imaging.
- Experience in clinical research.
- Experience in publications and conference presentations.

Desired Attributes:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in a multi team fast-paced environment.
- Experience with database applications, imaging software and/or statistical analysis.
