Position Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Windows Scripting Specialist . In this role you will works as part a team to provide scripting expertise, software packaging skills, imaging and end-user support for the Windows desktop and VMWare VDI environments. Core responsibilities will be focused on Windows desktop/server lifecycle support, scripting, and management of Windows 10/11 images and applications using SCCM . This position interfaces with University faculty, staff, business partners and students.
As the Windows Scripting Specialist, you will:
  • Develop and script various tasks/routines that will be used for automation, provisioning in our desktop and VDI environments, Active Directory user management, SCCM common tasks, file permission compliance, asset management, and business queries.
  • Carry out responsibilities for the entire desktop and server lifecycle – deploy, inventory, deliver, install, maintain/support, decommission and disposal.
  • Perform day-to-day second and third level technical support. Provide Windows hardware, software, and network problem diagnosis/resolution for on-site and remote end users.
  • Collaborate closely with the team to take shared responsibility for the overall duties and obligations, ensuring consistent application of CASet standards and best practices. Contribute cross-functionally with other University departments to represent CAS and CASet.
  • Write, revise, and edit user and technical reference documentation. Research and translate technical information and procedures into documentation for non-technical and technical users. Maintain documentation quality and accuracy by evaluating and updating documentation as needed.
  • Focus on professional development and maintain current technical expertise in the rapidly changing technology of microcomputers and their lifecycle management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • 3 year’s experience in Windows scripting technologies (PowerShell, VB script, command line, etc.), Windows systems administration and systems implementation and in Active Directory administration and design.
  • Proven experience with technical desktop support practices, successful SCCM image and package deployment.
  • Experience supporting VDI /VMWare environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Knowledge of internet, web, applications, and network security techniques.
  • Understanding of TCP /IP, Routing, Switching, Firewalls, and other network functionality.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, solutions, etc.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minor guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Windows systems administration and systems implementation and in Active Directory administration and design preferred.
  • Understanding of higher education institutional, academic, and business interdependencies
Physical Demands
  • Frequently moves computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus with the assistance of a dolly or cart.
  • A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle is required or candidate must otherwise demonstrate his/her capacity to meet the transportation requirements of the position.
Salary Range
$65,000 - $70,000
