The Director of the OASIS Tutoring & Learning Center provides leadership and strategic direction for a multi-program (computer and learning lab, subject – and course – specific tutoring, and Learning Strategy Instruction) learning support center, including supervision of professional learning specialists and peer-tutor staff, oversight for program development, delivery, and assessment, the provision of learning support to at-risk student populations, students seeking more advanced skills and test prep programs. This position holds primary responsibility for university tutoring programs and supports university retention initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Serves at the USSC’s leader with respect to all matters related to tutoring services.
- Managers the daily operations of the OASIS that provides comprehensive learning support for all students including tutoring, workshops, and test prep.
- Oversees the use of technology for for learning in the OASIS, including the oversight and management of all tutoring platforms (i.e. Upswing, eTutor, Tutor.com, Knack).
- Oversees academic support services for all CSU students and fosters a positive, collaborative, student-centered environment that promotes learning and understanding.
- Reviews current best practice strategies for student success and implements those strategies that support the student population at CSU .
- Recruits, schedules, trains and supervises subject-specific tutors in conformance with nationally recognized best practice ( CRLA ITTPC certification level 1).
- Directs hiring, training, and supervision of all OASIS professional staff including conducting annual reviews and assisting staff in needed areas of improvement.
- Creates and prioritizes opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to serve as peer leaders towards the promotion of an inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Maintains an active assessment program for OASIS services and student progress; provides data on a regular reporting schedule to Executive Director.
- Coordinates with other academic support services to support the mission of the university and the academic success of all students; this includes creation of promotional materials and participation in university-wide initiatives such as SOAR .
- Oversees the business aspect of the OASIS (including budget, payroll, employee leave, schedules, etc.).
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Master’s degree required in a STEAM discipline, English, or Education from a regionally accredited institution.
- Minimum two to three years of progressively responsible professional experience in learning assistance centers, academic support services, and/or learning enrichment
- Must work well with people, diverse populations, and be committed to providing a nurturing approach to learning
- Experience in coordinating the delivery or services to students, and in supervising, and evaluating paraprofessional staff.
- Effective communication skills (ability to present clear and concise information both orally and in written form
- Demonstrated competence in working with technology and data systems.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule
- Knowledge of CRLA certification processes and standards
- Experiences utilizing and training other to use online tutoring platforms such as Upswing, eTutor, Knack and Tutor.com
- Experience utilizing student success management platforms such as EAB Navigate
- Experience with building courses within learning management systems ( LMS ), such as Brightspace D2L
