University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the
university's educational mission by providing quality services that
complement the instructional program. The University depends upon
UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds.
We're responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but
not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending
services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and
local funding for research and sponsored projects.

The Science Success Center (SSC) is a Department of Education
grant-funded project whose mission is to increase graduation and
retention for students pursuing STEM fields (especially, Hispanic,
community college transfer, and low-income students) while
providing the proper resources and tools for student success at
CSUSB and beyond. Our goal is to empower and boost student
self-efficacy through a holistic advising model. At the SSC,
students are paired with an academic advisor to help them with all
their academic and career needs. Students meet with their assigned
advisor throughout the academic year to review academic goals and
progress, career goals, and resources to enhance their
Typically, 40 hours per week; hours will vary depending on the need
between 7:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m., with typical hours being
Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.; possible evening and weekends
required. Incumbent must be able to participate in remote or on
campus work depending on the directives from the CSUSB

Under minimal supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Senior
STEM Counselor will work independently to:
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform the following advising and leadership
responsibilities, with the over-arching goal to promote student
success outcomes including retention, timely degree progress, and

Represent SSC and CNS on various internal and external
committees related to advising, recruiting and student

Sciences and the grant leadership team and other academic
Act as the resource person/knowledgeable expert on electronic
advising tools, academic coaching, student success data and assist
with the training of chairs of academic departments, faculty
advisors and other staff members on the principles and practices of
effective proactive advising to support student success.
- Advising: The incumbent will
- Be responsible for advising students based on designated CNS
majors, with a specific focus on STEM majors in biology, chemistry
& biochemistry, computer science and engineering, geological
sciences, mathematics and physics.
- Advise students in specific curriculum decisions including the
choice and scheduling of courses, selection or change of majors and
minors, providing referrals to specific departments, schools or
colleges as appropriate.
- Assist students in the development and implementation of an
education plan including choosing a major/clarifying career goal,
developing an academic program for graduating in a timely manner,
as well as the implementation of an Individual Development
- Provide information on specific programs, and make referrals
where appropriate, to services offered by the university or by
organizations outside of CSUSB.
- Work at campus events such as new student orientation, open
house, bootcamp advising, and others as assigned.
- Work on the development, implementation, and evaluation of
student advising workshops.
A Bachelor's degree is required. A STEM
degree (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Computer Science,
Mathematics, or related field) is highly desirable. A master's
degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Social Work, or a directly
related field is highly preferred.
Minimum of 2 years in academic
advising/counseling in a university or community college setting is
Knowledge & Skills:
Applicants must possess A
working knowledge of applicable university and federal policy and
procedures. The ability to participate in and contribute positively
to group meetings, and establish and maintain cooperative working
relationship with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Fundamental writing skills and effective communication skills with
the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
