Department Summary

The Office of Philanthropic Giving is part of University Advancement and is responsible for securing private philanthropy from alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations to advance the University's mission in support of the faculty, staff, and students. OPG plays a critical role in advancing the University and cementing CSUSB's reputation as a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California.

Job Summary

The Senior Director of Philanthropy (SDoP) will manage development efforts for a multifaceted and dynamic fundraising program. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Philanthropic Giving, the Senior Director will predominantly manage development activities in JHBC in close coordination with University Advancement and the Dean of JHBC.

In addition, the SDoP will be responsible for raising resources in support of endowed scholarships, fellowships, professorships, and capital projects as well as unrestricted and restricted current use purposes. The SDoP will play a critical role in the planning of the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration priorities as part of the University's fundraising campaign, collaborating with University officials, faculty, campaign volunteers, and colleagues throughout the Advancement office.

Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
  • Conducting personal visits annually to cultivate, solicit prospects and close gifts.
  • Completes a minimum number of major gifts asks, visits, and written strategies; metrics and goals are negotiated and set annually with the SDoP including guidance from the Dean and AVP for Philanthropic Giving.
  • Identifying, cultivating and soliciting alumni, parents and friends for the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration.
  • Works in a highly collaborative environment, SDoP will have opportunities to engage with faculty, manage volunteers, and collaborate with colleagues across the Philanthropic Giving team, and Advancement Division.
  • Major Gift portfolios may include regional and national assignments involving travel.
  • Staff and manage volunteers for the purposes of cultivating major gifts Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration including but not limited to staffing campaign committees, boards and councils (as assigned). Work within these groups to solicit gifts and steward new relationships. Cultivate and recruit potential members. Represent the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration and the university in the community by attending events, participating in regional, state and national organizations and serving on community-based boards.
  • Work with the alumni and annual giving operation, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations and other staff to ensure that the service and information needs of the division and general university supporters are addressed in a seamless and immediate manner. Work with the central advancement services office as well as prospect management to consistently ensure the freshness, correctness, and security of the advancement database, along with prospect, donor and alumni records.
  • Participate in divisional strategic planning, goal setting, event planning, project status sessions and will maintain the highest standards of campus development procedures and protocols utilizing various forms, report formats, databases, and clearance procedures. Participate in department and division wide meetings and retreats.


  • Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, At-will, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

    Work Schedule

    Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

    Key Qualifications
    • Basic knowledge of planned/deferred giving vehicles such as wills, life income plans, gifts of unusual assets, beneficiary designations.
    • Proven customer service and relationship building experience.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and BSR Advance database (or equivalents).
    • Successful experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Experience managing a diverse portfolio of prospects.



    Education and Experience
    • Minimum 3 years experience in fundraising for higher education or other nonprofits.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

    Salary

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,917 - $10,000 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $4,583 - $13,750 per month

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
