Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (WOT) in Interventional Radiology

Position Description

 

The Department of Radiology at the University of Washington is seeking a full-time (100% FTE) radiologist interested in pursuing an academic career as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, commensurate with experience, in the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Section with a special focus on participating in our Interventional Oncology service line.  This position has an anticipated start date of December 1, 2022.  Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

 

This position will participate in Interventional Oncology including catheter directed therapies, ablation, and emerging techniques for image guided therapies for cancer.  Through our close relationship with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, we have a large referral base of medical and surgical oncologists.  Close working relationships with our referring providers are key to the success and growth of our program.

The University of Washington Interventional Radiology Division covers five sites (the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Veteran's Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and Northwest Hospital) and has an affiliate agreement for fellowship training with Seattle Children's Hospital.  Our service provides a broad range of vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures, with particular strengths in endovascular treatment of venous disease, interventional oncology, solid organ transplant interventions, trauma, and dialysis access management.  The clinical practice is outstanding and includes inpatient admitting services and a full day of outpatient clinic for each IR attending physician.  We have an active IR/DR residency program with three residents per year as well as a full complement of Advanced Practice Providers to support both our inpatient and outpatient services. 

 

The section operates an active animal laboratory at the South Lake Union campus with considerable NIH grant support.  Teaching is an essential element of the position.  Teaching duties include instruction on the clinical service in IR procedure techniques along with pre- and post-procedure care to interventional and diagnostic radiology residents as well as medical students.  In addition, all faculty members give didactic lectures throughout the year to radiology residents and providers in related disciplines.  All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

 

Seattle is consistently ranked among the top three urban areas for quality of life, with superb recreation and outdoor activities nearby and a very temperate climate.  Despite its reputation, springs and summers in Seattle are sunny and warm.  It is very family-friendly and accommodating to extensive sports and outdoors activities with excellent schools available.  Seattle has thriving culinary and music scenes.  It is not only the city that gave us Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, but also the place where you find some of the best jazz performances in the world.  Sports?  Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Storm, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners, and Seattle Kraken, Go Huskies!

 

Qualifications

 

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

 

• M.D., or foreign equivalent, in the field and eligibility for full medical licensure in Washington State ABR-certified or eligible for an IR/DR certificate Completion of a Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship or residency in an accredited program Requires a record of research as demonstrated by scientific presentations and/or publications

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

 

NOTE: This position will require work to be performed on-site at a Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) or Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) facility.  SCCA requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at an SCCA facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy which is appended below, the SCCA policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment
