Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three or more years of successful experience in sales or major gifts fundraising
  • One to two years of experience in making cold calls as well as the ability to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Frequent travel is a priority in this position requiring flexibility in work hours to include evenings and weekends and extensive travel as needed to accomplish objectives and satisfy goals.
  • Ability to prepare written proposals to solicit prospects for gifts in support of the University to promote visionary gift opportunities.
  • Ability to identify fundraising opportunities that support multiple goals with a single source of funding
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines with fundraising colleagues in central development and constituent schools and units is necessary
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of potential donors and donors in order to develop relationships between them and colleges or areas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments
  • Ability to manage competing priorities consulting with supervisor as necessary and meet tight deadlines
License/Certification Required Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Development for University Initiatives assists in the fundraising efforts that support campus sustainability goals, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and University scholarships. This role will balance responsibilities between raising funds and performing discovery/qualification calls on alumni, friends of the university, foundations, and corporations who are yet to be engaged.

The Director of Development is responsible for:
  • Working with donors and donor prospects in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship. Donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade are essential elements of raising critical current philanthropic resources, in addition to building the pipeline for the major gifts program. Additionally, one of the greatest opportunities is the discovery & qualification stage of acquiring new donors.
  • Work with supervisor to recommend and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual prospects.
  • Develop a pipeline to meet increasing annual fundraising goals by working with the Office of Prospect Management and Research to identify, cultivate and solicit alumni, parents, and friends of the institution, and major gifts prospects who are capable of contributing $50,000+.
  • Prepare written proposals to solicit prospects for gifts in support of the University; use of persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities.
  • Must adhere to and follow procedures in coordination with the Office of Gift Processing to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgment, and follow-up on all gifts.
  • Coordinate with all areas within Advancement to ensure that these trips yield gifts for donor-directed areas of campus.
  • Provide guidance and consultation on university events, programming, and activity on the west coast working in partnership with colleagues across campus.
  • Work collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, volunteers, advisory board members, and other advancement staff as appropriate.
  • Monthly contact reports, moves, and prospect management activities must be recorded.
  • Frequent travel is a priority in this position requiring flexibility in work hours to include evenings and weekends and travel as needed to accomplish objectives and satisfy goals.
Suggested Salary Range Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications Physical Demands of Position
The range of physical demands for this position is broad. The position requires desk work and also time on the feet to assist at events. The position occasionally requires light to medium lifting (up to 30 pounds) related to event management and daily office duties. All duties to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
