Job Description

 

Nominations and applications are now being accepted for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position within the Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Health Professions, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Faculty rank and tenure status are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

The Department of Occupational Therapy offers graduate programs for both entry level and post professional students and co-sponsors an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science with the Department of Physical Therapy. A vibrant faculty offers research expertise in many areas and the Department's Low Vision Therapy Program is a unique national resource.

 

For this position, primary responsibilities will include:

 

  • Teaching within the department’s programs Preference will be given to those with experience teaching foundational sciences such as anatomy, physiology and/or neuroscience Preference will also be given to applicants who can lead the development of programming, at graduate and post-graduate level, focused on “Assistive Technology/Rehabilitation Engineering”. This will include developing strong links with the School of Engineering to explore collaboration and joint programming

Student Mentoring – including for doctoral capstone projects and PhD in Rehabilitation Science students

  • Pursuit of independent scholarship preference will be given to applicants who can develop a research/scholarship agenda and compete for extramural funding that aligns with the vision and mission of the department and school.

Participation in department, school, community, and national service activities.  

 

Candidates should have an earned research doctorate (e.g., PhD, DSc, ScD) from an accredited university. Candidates with degrees from the fields of occupational therapy, engineering, or a closely related field, will be considered.

 

An active research program or demonstrated potential for scholarship, which includes pursuit of external funding, and publication is preferred.  The successful candidate should be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring our diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and clinical partners across a wide range of disciplines and settings.

 

The department is seeking candidates with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives. The department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
