Position Title Post-Doctoral Fellow - 3D Materials Lab The Opportunity

The 3D Materials Lab ( www.prashungorai.org ) at the Colorado School of Mines is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow in the area of data-driven materials discovery. The position is open immediately but expected start date is around September 2022. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility for additional years of support provided adequate progress on the project. The group has several funded projects in the general area of data-driven materials discovery, defect properties, and alloy modeling with applications in solid-state batteries, thermoelectrics, ferroelectrics, and microelectronics. This specific position will focus on design of a new family of tetrahedral ferroelectric materials. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in other projects based on interest.

Responsibilities
  • Actively engage in data-driven materials research.
  • Disseminate the research results through publications, conferences, and other activities.
  • Mentor junior members of the group.
  • Participate in collaborative research with experimentalists and machine-learning experts.
Additional Responsibilities:

If interested, the candidate will have the opportunity to actively participate in proposal development.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related fields.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Background in density functional theory (VASP, QE).
  • Prior experience with machine learning, materials informatics is a bonus, but not necessary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that will facilitate the research dissemination and interdisciplinary collaborations with multiple teams.
Preferred Qualifications

Background in density functional theory and experience with running quantum mechanical calculations with supercomputing resources is a must.

Pay Range

$55,000 - $60,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
