Summary

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Virginia Commonwealth University has one laboratory technician position available. The incumbent will assist in the implementation of research projects and related experiments involving specialized research procedures that have been funded by NIH grants and in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and the data generated from lab experiments. The major focus of our research projects is on the molecular mechanisms of coronary arterial disease and chronic kidney disease due to hyperhomocysteinemia, hypertension, and obesity.

Responsibilities include:

Practice good sterile technique, culture cells, and prepare cell lysates for other team members for specific experiments.
Help conduct confocal microscopy, fluorescent microscopic imaging of living cells, atomic force microscopy, patch clamping, or electron spin resonance spectrometric analysis.
Perform some experiments mentioned above after training time.
Data collection and analysis after experiments.
Compile accurate experiment records in both hard copy and electronic laboratory files and communicate summaries of results with principle investigator and supervisor.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment in the laboratory that will be used by the incumbent.

Required Qualifications:


Applicant must have a B.A or M.S. degree in bioengineering, biotechnology or biomedical sciences. Good computer and communication skills are necessary. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidate with experience working with microscopic imaging techniques is preferred.
