Graduate Assistant- Housing and Residence Life

Job Description

The Graduate Assistant for Housing & Residence Life, reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life – Housing Operations & Services, will assist with the management of the residential front desk program, residential mail and package systems, and residential marketing and social media.

Graduate Assistants receive a $5000 yearly stipend (divided and paid monthly for 10 months). Graduate Assistants also receive up to 9 graduate credit hours paid tuition per semester based on program selection (note: Graduate Assistants will be required to remain in good academic standing as they proceed through their selected program).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life – Housing Operations & Services with hiring, supervising, and evaluating the Desk Assistant team members.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the Department of Housing & Residence Life’s publicity, marketing, and social media initiatives.
  • Assist with preparation and facilitation of residence hall desks for peak time periods (move-in times, move-out times, extended breaks, etc.).
  • Conduct monthly in-service professional development training sessions for Desk Assistants on various topics.
  • Collaborate with other Department of Housing & Residence Life team members and assist with departmental, divisional, and/or university events as needed.
  • Maintain residence hall front desk usage statistics and program analyses with the assistance of the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life – Housing Operations & Services.
  • Provide on-site supervision of front desks in the Commons Building and residence halls at various times during the week and occasional weekends, including serving as back-up coverage for the desks for shifts.
  • Oversee daily inventory and audit of residence hall front desks including supplies, shift reports, etc.
  • Attendance and operation management of the Department of Housing & Residence Life events, as assigned.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life – Housing Operations & Services with oversight and dispersal of residential mail and packages.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the Department of Housing & Residence Life.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to handle a high workload in a demanding environment and be well organized; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with supervision.
  • Knowledgeable of social media platforms
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must be accepted and enrolled into the Missouri Western State University graduate program.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to assert authority to students.
  • Must be able to communicate ideas to others.
  • Must be willing to learn all rules, regulations, policies and procedures within the Department of Housing & Residence Life.
