Department Summary
The Division of Student Life supports the University's academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success, while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four departments, the Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, and Physical Education & Recreation, and a number of key programs, including the Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Student Engagement & Success (Student Government), Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.

Position Summary
The Basic Needs Coordinator for Housing and Financial Security Navigation is a position in the Office of the Dean of Students that will use a trauma-informed lens to offer case management services to students who struggle with homelessness, housing-insecurity, food-insecurity, mental and physical wellness, and employment instability. This position uses a social justice and equity-based framework to assist students in accessing resources and solutions essential for increasing academic retention and student success.

This position assists the campus community in responding, coordinating, and assessing programs and services designed to identify and meet the needs of under-resourced and high-need students. The coordinator is responsible for direct work with students, staff, and community members and participates in related basic needs functions, such as community and program education. This position works closely with Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO) and other campus partners.

This position will be an advocate for student success and will oversee the administration of the Students in Crisis fund, the Childcare Subsidy, and other ASUO Subsidies, including the application process, review, and awarding. This position will also help students secure safe, stable, and affordable, housing. This position advocates and supports students as they navigate financial challenges.

The position reports to the Director of Basic Needs & Off Campus Support.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of experience providing basic need support, crisis response, or case management for individuals that includes coordination with campus and/or community services.
  • One year of experience in a non-profit, government, or higher education setting.
    Professional Competencies
  • Knowledge of cultural factors and systems influencing poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity.
  • Multicultural competence and a commitment to multicultural organizational development.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, leadership development, community building, group facilitation, conflict resolution, advising, training, and/or team building.
  • Effective communication skills to support individuals in crisis, interfacing with a wide range of colleagues to support individuals in crisis.
  • Effective written communication skills including the ability to create cogent, clear written communications and documents for a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple cases and use various computer applications to manage caseload.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education or related field.
  • Experience working with college students in student services, student affairs, or student development capacities or in social services, social work, counseling, or case management roles.
  • Experience providing case management as part of a multidisciplinary team, managing a diverse caseload.
  • Experience with crisis management and managing high-pressure situations.
  • Experience managing an emergency funding or grant program.
  • Experience managing a complex budget.
  • Experience helping others problem-solve, including navigating structural and systemic barriers.
  • Knowledge of higher education laws and regulations, including Federal legislation such as Title IX and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
