    Department Summary
    University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

    This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.
    Position Summary
    As PT Services Receptionist, this position functions as the initial contact between Physical Therapy Services personnel and patients. As such, it is imperative that this individual be able to handle a busy environment with frequent interruptions with calm professionalism and a welcoming demeanor.

    Primary duties include front office tasks such as answering phones, handling general inquiries, checking insurance benefits, scheduling patients, handling patient charts (preparation and filing), faxing documents, gathering external clinician data (NPI numbers, ICD-10 codes, outside records, etc.), and maintaining effective communication between the front office area and the clinical areas.

    This individual must be able to independently screen patients to determine the urgency of their appointment(s). Additionally, this individual must be able to independently manage multiple provider schedules to ensure maximal efficiency on a day-to-day basis.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Completion of courses or training in Office Technology; OR
  • One year of general clerical experience which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years' experience working in a high-volume medical organization.
  • Experience working in a physical therapy department, including multiple disciplines.
  • Experience with health insurance tasks such as insurance benefits checks.
  • Experience working with non-English speaking patients.
  • Experience completing insurance eligibility checks and pre-authorizations.
