Job Description

The Missouri Orthopaedic Institute (School of Medicine – Department of Orthopaedic Surgery) – Central Missouri’s largest freestanding Orthopaedic center – is seeking a highly motivated, engaged, and committed Nurse Clinician who is interested in joining a fast-paced, highly productive team.

Our Orthopaedic service talent teams include: Attending Physicians, Fellow/Resident Physicians, Extender Practitioners, Nurses, ATC/OTCs, Clinical Administrative Coordinators, Research Faculty, Research Technical Teams, and Students. Our providers have clinical locations in Columbia, Jefferson City, Boonville, Liberty and Springfield. The ideal candidate will play an instrumental role in the success of sustaining our department’s mission: advance the clinical, research and teaching components of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri.

This position will partner with departmental staff to support the overall culture in advancing the culture of Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and C3 Orthopaedics Initiative (Comprehensive, Cutting Edge, Caring Culture), which fosters a fast learning and continuously improving organization to further our mission.

Position Overview:
• Build and grow credibility, relationships and understanding of Department & Service Line to ensure optimal clinical support
• Assist with the strategies of supporting the Service Line team to ensure long-term success
• Provide medical information, direct patient care, and emotional support to patients and families.
• Establish and maintain collegial relationships with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and Trauma service line to ensure open communication and positive outcomes.
• Provide professional nursing support services under the direction of Orthopedic APP for patients in the inpatient acute care settings.
• Perform floor tasks assigned by APP during the day
• Discharge Planning/Preparation/Coordination including, but not limited to:
o Communication and coordination with social work on disposition

specifics and referrals to facilities and/or home health agencies.
o Preparation of patient depart with tailored discharge instructions and patient education.
o Coordination and scheduling of patient follow-up appointments.
o Preparation of patient discharge packets with all necessary patient information, forms and instructions/education, Disk with appropriate imaging studies (Included information will be dependent on patient disposition plan).

• Assist with all patient care questions/discharge instructions while in the hospital and at MOI.
• Round on every discharge planned for that day to go over instructions with them in collaboration with the APP.
• Review discharge paperwork with inpatient.
• Review Narcotic Policies with patients.
• Review discharge medication list with patients.
• Education of patients regarding wound care.
• Verify referral appointment has been made and was notified by physician's office
• Coordinate patient care instructions and follow up with Rehab/SNF.
• Communicate appropriately to Orthopedic Trauma APP or residents to make sure patient issues are addressed appropriately.
• Follow trauma service line protocols.

Salary

Salary Range: $60,572 - $97,193 Annually

Grade: PAT RN3

Monday – Friday

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Two (2) years of RN experience in an area of specialization. Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from a school of nursing and possession of a current Missouri License as a Registered Nurse or a temporary permit to practice nursing in the state of Missouri is necessary. Participation in professional nursing organization is desirable.
