Job Summary:

The Taylor Lab (https://apps.pharmacy.wisc.edu/sopdir/michael_taylor/) investigates the molecular regulation of blood-brain barrier development, CNS angiogenesis, and mechanisms of neuroinflammation. The selected applicant will help prepare manuscripts, research the relevant scientific literature, and analyze and interpret scientific data while working closely with members of the Taylor Lab.

Responsibilities:

Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.
  • 10% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 20% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
  • 20% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 10% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 20% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
  • 10% Works closely with members of the lab to prepare, write, and submit manuscripts for publication in scientific journals

Education:

Preferred
Terminal Degree
PhD in Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology, Neuroscience or related field is preferred. Master's and Bachelor's degrees may be considered based upon relevant experience.

Qualifications:

Minimum of four years of research experience with a strong background in molecular/cellular/developmental biology, microscopy, and model organisms is required. Prior experience with zebrafish genetics is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience writing manuscripts and grant proposals, a desire to work closely with graduate and undergraduate students, and possess excellent technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
