Job Summary:

This position provides post-award and fiscal support to Department of Psychology faculty, staff, students, and others as part of the department support team. They help train, provide advice, and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines for the Department of Psychology community. The position is the main point-of-contact on a number of financial issues so strong customer service is a must. Work is partially-onsite which means you'll get to know our faculty, staff, and students as you help them and find out about all the amazing research they are doing.

The position is responsible for financial transactions such as purchasing, arranging travel, approving e-reimbursements and overseeing department funding through tracking, reconciliations, and projections. They perform exact accounting, record keeping, and analytical services for the Department.

Although candidates must have some financial experience, they do not have to have full experience in all areas. The department is willing to do some training.

Responsibilities:

Performs advanced accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares and reviews financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions.
  • 5% Organizes, prepares, and updates financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
  • 5% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements solutions as needed
  • 15% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
  • 5% Provides and prepares budgets and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures
  • 25% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
  • 25% Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments
  • 5% Help coordinate building projects such as office and lab moves. Serves as Department Property Administrator.
  • 15% Holds purchasing card, handles department purchasing and travel arrangement.

Education:

Preferred

Qualifications:

Experience in finance or accounting required.
Experience applying policies and procedures required.
Effective communications skills and attention to detail required.
Must be proficient in Excel.

This position will require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Additional Information:

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills and is able to work independently.

This position is primarily on campus. Right now the department staff are working remotely one day per week which would be a possibility once the initial training period is over.

The department will not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
