NELSON INSTITUTE OUTREACH SPECIALIST

Salary:

Minimum $42,600 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications

Job Summary:

The newly created Outreach Specialist position at the Nelson Institute will provide the right candidate an opportunity to build on the Institute's 50+ years of service while influencing new approaches for strengthening the Institute's mission. The Outreach Specialist will help deliver and assist with planning outreach program activities to build and maintain contacts with communities, organizations, and schools to support the Institute's diversity and retention initiatives and outreach programming. The Outreach Specialist will help strengthen existing partnerships, build new partnerships, ensure adherence to campus and Institute policy, and assist with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local communities. The Outreach Specialist will strive to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. Specifically, the outreach specialist will assist with instruction and advising of the Nelson Institute's undergraduate Community Environmental Scholars Program (CESP).

Responsibilities:

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 5% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 20% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 20% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 20% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 15% Provide instructional and advising support for the Community Environmental Scholars Program (CESP)

Education:

Required

Qualifications:

Required:

- minimum 2 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: a) community engagement b) outreach (including communications and partnership building) c) student advising, mentorship, or instruction and/or d) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work.

Preferred:

- 2+ years working in: a) community engagement b) outreach (including communications and partnership building) c) student advising, mentorship, or instruction and/or d) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work.
- Experience working with students in a higher education setting
- Experience working with and/or leading community partnerships
- Experience in outreach work, including messaging and relationship building
- Experience with, and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work
- Excellent interpersonal skills, listening skills and communications skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience in developing student-centered programs and services
- Demonstrated high level of cultural competency in working with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a strong attention to detail
- Professional experience and/or academic background in the environment (broadly)
- Ability to participate in teaching and/or course development related to outreach
