Position Summary:

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining financial data and all appropriate recordkeeping systems for the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences, which have budgets totaling approximately $25 million. The two departments are made up of approximately 300 employees in a diverse mix of categories and roles.

Specifically, this position performs exact accounting, recordkeeping, and analytical services, and is responsible for proper controls and the accuracy of all transactions. This includes financial management of federal and non-federal grants, state funds, and revenue producing accounts associated with instructional, extension, and research operations, faculty research laboratories, departmental gifts/grants, animal operations on-campus and off-campus, and trust/foundation activities. Ongoing contacts are maintained with a variety of UW personnel in the offices of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), UW Extension, Graduate School, and a variety of Departments in CALS and other Colleges, in addition to individuals outside the University (funding agencies, external vendors, clients, general public, etc.) This position also prepares and signs purchasing requisitions, deposits funds, compiles data for various reports, implements operational and procedural changes, resolves problems relative to departmental financial matters, and serves as back-up site- manager for departmental credit card users.

In addition, this position provides separate animal operations fund accounting and accounting services for thirteen farm or animal units. This includes audits and deposits for cash sales of milk, cattle, other animal operations and program revenue, as well as a wide variety of other departmental cash operations/activities, in excess of $20 million annually. As a financial specialist for animal care operations, expedited processing of some requisitions/expenditures will be expected.
